The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Kuala Lumpur is pleased to announce the successful initiation of dialogue between the High Commission and the South Asia Parliament Group of Malaysia. The meeting took place on 8th April 2025 at the Hilton Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, between the Hon. Dato’ Sri Saravanan Murugan, Member of Malaysian Parliament and President of the South Asia Parliamentary Group of Malaysia, and Mr. M. I. Mohamed Rizvi, Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka.
This initial engagement marks an important step toward enhancing inter-parliamentary collaboration and fostering a deeper cooperation between the legislative institutions of Sri Lanka and Malaysia. The discussions centred on strengthening parliamentary diplomacy, upholding democratic values, and exploring opportunities for capacity-building programmes for parliamentarians of both countries.
Both parties expressed a strong interest in facilitating exchanges and joint initiatives to build institutional knowledge and experience within their respective parliamentary systems. A key focus of the meeting was on expanding economic cooperation—particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and tourism. The discussion also explored ways to increase employment opportunities for Sri Lankans in Malaysia and to address and mitigate the existing trade imbalance. Mrs. A.T.P. Perera, Second Secretary of the High Commission, was also present at the meeting
The High Commission looks forward to continuing its engagement with the Parliament of Malaysia and the South Asia Parliament Group, as both sides work together to build stronger and more dynamic bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Malaysia.
