The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Kuala Lumpur hosts spiritual and cultural extravaganza Vesak Programmes
The Sri Lanka High Commission in Kuala Lumpur marked the auspicious occasion of Vesak with a vibrant celebration, showcasing the rich spiritual heritage and cultural diversity of Sri Lanka.
The festivities commence with the inauguration of a Buddha Relics Exhibition at the serene Dhammacakka Buddhist Vihara (Bukit Rambai Buddhist Temple) in Malacca. Over 20 revered Buddhist monks from Mihintale, Sri Lanka, graced the occasion, bringing with them the sacred relics of Lord Buddha to display. The relics, steeped in centuries of reverence and tradition, were opened for worship by the Buddhist community in Malacca, drawing devotees and dignitaries alike. Among the esteemed guests included the top Government representatives from the State Government of Malacca and prominent VIPs, who joined in the spiritual reverence, underscoring the significance of unity and harmony in the pursuit of enlightenment.
In addition to the ceremonies at Dhammacakka Buddhist Vihara, the Sri Lanka High Commission hosted a delightful Hi-Tea Vesak Reception at Brickfield Maha Vihara, in collaboration with six Buddhist associations in Malaysia. The event was graced by the presence of Her Excellency Saraswathy Kandasami, Deputy Minister of National Unity, who presided as the Chief Guest. Over 20 diplomatic Missions from Buddhist countries and friendly nations joined in the festivities, celebrating the universal message of peace, compassion, and unity embodied by Lord Buddha.
Further, the Mission successfully organized a Sago Dansela for the second time in conjunction with Vesak Full Moon Poya Day at the Brickfields Buddhist Maha Vihara. The Staff members of the High Commission took the initiative to organize this Dansela, which saw the participation of a large number of devotees and community members. The event was marked by the distribution of sago to 1,300 people, symbolizing the spirit of giving and compassion that Vesak celebrates.
The Vesak celebrations, meticulously organized by the Sri Lanka High Commission, serve as a testament to the enduring bonds of friendship and cultural exchange between Sri Lanka and Malaysia. The High Commission remains committed to fostering cultural and religious traditions that bring our community together.
