At an elegant yet modest flag hoisting ceremony held at the Chancery premises, Sri Lanka High Commission in Malaysia marked the 74th anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka on 4th of February 2022.
The ceremony commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by the High Commissioner designate, Air Chief Marshal Sumangala Dias which was followed by the singing of the national anthem.
Those who have laid down their lives and made sacrifices to regain the freedom of our motherland and to safeguard its sovereignty and integrity were respectfully remembered and paid homage to at the event. Religious dignitaries of Buddhist, Christian, Hindu and Islam faiths bestowed blessings for Sri Lanka to prosper.
As per the Sri Lankan tradition, High Commissioner designate and the staff auspiciously marked the celebrations with lighting of the traditional oil lamp.
The live telecast of Independence celebrations held at the Independence square; Colombo was live streamed at the event.
Air Chief Marshal Sumangala Dias addressing the gathering emphasized that the freedom and peace enjoy by all citizens of Sri Lanka didn’t come easily and stated that brave sons and daughters of mother Lanka irrespective of their ethnicity and religion had to make great sacrifices, he paid tribute to those who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty in protecting the sovereignty and integrity of the motherland. He also stressed upon his ardent belief that under the proven leadership of HE the President Gotabaya Rajapaksha Sri Lanka will be able to overcome its economic hardships specially with the government’s policy framework “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour” and Sri Lanka moving towards a Production Economy.
The proceedings of the events were conducted in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages and was live streamed via the High Commission’s official FaceBook page to connect with all Sri Lankans residing in all parts of Malaysia.
