The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Kuala Lumpur hosted a distinguished reception to celebrate Sri Lanka’s 77th National Independence Day on 4 February 2025 at The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The event was a magnificent tribute to the enduring friendship between Sri Lanka and Malaysia, reflecting a shared commitment to cultural and diplomatic ties.
The occasion was graced by the esteemed presence of Her Excellency YB Hannah Yeoh Tseow Suan, Minister of Youth and Sports of Malaysia, alongside His Excellency Tun Sri Setia (Dr.) Haji Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam, Governor of the State of Malacca. Also in attendance were His Highness Y.D.M. Tengku Maha Kurnia Bijaya Diraja, YB Tuan M. Kulasegaran, YB Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mukhriz Tun Dr. Mahathir, and YB Encik Sivanesan, among other distinguished guests.
In a heartfelt toast, YB Hannah Yeoh extended warm wishes for the health and well-being of His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka, as well as for the continued prosperity of Sri Lanka. In his address, Acting High Commissioner Mr. Mohamed Rizvi congratulated Malaysia on assuming the ASEAN Chairmanship and highlighted Sri Lanka’s rapid economic recovery and sustainable growth, particularly in the tourism sector. He also underscored the invaluable contributions of the Sri Lankan Malaysian community (Ceylonese) and Sri Lankan expatriates to the socio-economic fabric of Malaysia, emphasizing the enduring ties between the two nations.
The evening unfolded as a vibrant showcase of Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage, featuring mesmerizing traditional dance performances and soulful music. Guests were also treated to the exquisite flavors of authentic Ceylon cuisine. Over 250 esteemed guests, including VVIPs, VIPs, diplomats, intellectuals, academics, business leaders, and senior Malaysian officials, gathered to celebrate this momentous occasion, fostering camaraderie and strengthening bilateral ties. The lucky winners of the raffle draw received two free return air tickets from SriLankan Airlines and a luxurious stay at five-star hotel in Sri Lanka, sponsored by Jetwing Hotels and Cinnamon Grand Colombo.
