High Commission of Sri Lanka celebrated the 71st Anniversary of the National Independence Day of Sri Lanka at the High Commission premises on 4th February 2019 in Malaysia.
The proceedings commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp followed by the observance of two minutes silence in memory of all those who sacrificed their lives in the service of the country. This was followed by multi-religious observances conducted by Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Islamic religious dignitaries. Tri-lingual National Day messages of H.E. the President, Hon. Prime Minister and Hon. Foreign Minister were read by the staff of the High Commission.
The official toast to celebrate the 71st National Independence Day of Sri Lanka was proposed by the Honourable Datuk Mohd Azis bin Haji Jamman, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and His Excellency A.J.M. Muzammil.
The Diplomatic Community, Malaysian Officials, Leading Malaysian Entrepreneurs, Intellectuals, Academics and Sri Lankan community attended the celebrations.
A Traditional Sri Lankan Pooja Dance was performed at the celebrations. The celebration also featured a variety of Traditional Sri Lankan cuisine and sweetmeats.
