His Excellency A J M Muzammil, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka visited Mahindarama Temple in Penang on 7 August as a part of High Commissioner’s visit to Penang where the second Mobile service was conducted. Mahindarama Temple in Penang, Malaysia and is one of the major meditation centers for Buddhist, and attracts Buddhists locally as well as those from other countries including Sri Lanka, Thailand and Myanmar. Founded in 1918 and steeped in Sri Lankan traditions, it is one of the few temples in Malaysia where the Buddha’s relics are stored.
High Commissioner met the Most venerable Dr. Elgiriye Indarathana, chief incumbent of the Mahindarama temple briefed, regarding activities conducted by the High Commission during the past few months specially the Mobile Service. The Chief thero appreciated the indicatives taken by the High commission in particular look into the welfare and wellbeing of the Sri Lankan workers in Malaysia.
On the request of the High Commissioner, Most venerable Dr. Elgiriye Indarathana thero donated 200 robes to be donated to the almsgiving which is scheduled to held to commemorate Hon Prime Minister’s 40 years in Politics
