Vesak is the most important religious event for all Buddhists, which marks the birth, enlightenment and passing away of Lord Gautama Buddha. This year too, Vesak celebrations were held at the Buddhist Maha Vihara, Brickfields and Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple, Senthul on 09 and 10 May 2017 with a large gathering of Buddhists living in Malaysia at present. A number of religious events connected with Vesak celebrations had been organized by the Buddhist societies of the respective temples under the guidance of Ven Datuk Dhammaratana Nayaka Maha Thero, the chief incumbent of Buddhist Maha Vihara, Brickfields and Ven Bhante B Sri Saranankara Nayake Maha Thero, Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple, Senthul. H.E. the High Commissioner attended these events as the Special Guest. H.E. the High Commissioner in his Vesak day Message highlighted the Value of Buddha Teaching at present context and thank the Organizing committees. H.E. the High Commissioner also attended the ceremonial opening of Bodhiraja Buddhist Society Center in Kunthan, Malaysia on 10 May as a special guest. Ven Bhante B Sri Saranankara Nayake Maha Thero of Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple, Senthul, presided the ceremony. High commission Staff also participated at these events.
The High commission was colorfully decorated and illuminated with Vesak lanterns and Buddhist flags which brought the spirit of Vesak to the Malaysians.
