Sigiriya (lion rock) is an ancient rock fortress located in Dambulla,  the Central Province of the country. The name refers to a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock (200 meters high). Sigiriya today is a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site.

The 'Hill Country'

The 'Hill Country' or "Up Country" are terms broadly used to describe the mountainous regions of the centre of Sri Lanka. Covered with tea plantations and National Parks, this vast expanse is home to some of the most unique and historical accommodation in the country and the cool climate provides a beautiful contrast with the often scorching coastline.

A national monument in Sri Lanka built for commemoration of the independence of Sri Lanka from the British rule with the restoration of full governing responsibility[2] to a Ceylonese-elected legislatureon February 4, 1948. It is located at the Independence Square (formerly Torrington Square) in Colombo.

Fresco Paintings at Sigiriya Rock

The most renowned is the Sigiriya Rock painted on a Western Rock face cavity covering an area 140 meters long and 40 meters high and believed to have been painted in the fifth century AD. These pictures have a close resemblance to paintings seen in the Ajanta caves in India.

Yala National Park

Yala National Park is the second largest national park in Sri Lanka situated in the southeast region of the country in Uva Province. The park covers 979 square kilometres and was designated as a wildlife sanctuary in 1900. The park is best known for its variety of wild animals and has one of the highest leopard densities in the world.
