A musical team from Jaffna, Sri Lanka, led by the renowned “Layabeatha Vivagaara Sironmani, Thavil Chakravarthy,” delivered a mesmerizing performance during the Taal – Thavil Nadaswaram Concert held in conjunction with Diwali Celebrations on 22 November 2024. The concert, hosted at the Auditorium Kebudayaan & Kesenian Negara on Caldwell Road, featured the globally celebrated Yaazhpaanam N.R.S. Suthakaran and his ensemble of 11 talented musicians. The performance showcased the grandeur of Carnatic classical music through a captivating blend of intricate rhythms, Taal and Nathaswaram.
The event was jointly presented by The Greentown Indian Cultural Society, Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture Malaysia, Tourism Perak, Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara, Perak, and Majlis Kebudayaan Negeri, with instrumental support from Pejabat YB Tuan Sivanesan Achalingam and Pejabat YB Tuan Loh Sze Yee. The Sri Lankan ensemble’s masterful artistry left the audience enthralled, demonstrating the timeless cultural ties between Sri Lanka and Malaysia.
The Actg. Deputy High Commissioner Mr. Mohamed Rizvi commended the Sri Lankan team for their exceptional performance. To strengthen cultural ties further, a Kandy cultural performance will be scheduled in Ipoh, Perak in the coming years. The concert was a vibrant celebration of Sri Lanka’s rich musical heritage, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all attendees.
