Sri Lanka High Commission in Kuala Lumpur Celebrates Diwali as a reconciliation priorities of GoSL
The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Kuala Lumpur celebrated Diwali, the sacred festival of lights revered by Hindus worldwide, on 23 November 2023. The celebration took place at the High Commission premises in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, drawing a gathering of the diverse Sri Lankan community members, Federation of Malaysia Sri Lanka Business Council (FOMSO), Sri Lanka Malaysia Business Council (SLMBC), Sri Lankan originated Tamils residing in Malaysia as well as Malaysian high ranked government officials.
The High Commission premises was decorated with Kolam designs and illuminated with lights, lanterns and oil lamps symbolizing the spiritual victory of light over darkness, which is the essence of Diwali festival. Sharing sweets and Sri Lankan food with families and friends is an integral part of Diwali. The celebration featured a Hindu religious Pooja conducted by Swami Muraleetharan Kurukkal, infusing the atmosphere with spiritual fervor.
While addressing the event, His Excellency Air Chief Marshal (Ret) Sumangala Dias, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Malaysia elaborated on the significance of celebrating festivals like Diwali to bring forth harmony to the multicultural societies and deliberated the efforts of the Government of Sri Lanka on reconciliation priorities and function of Overseas Sri Lankan Office under the Presidential Secretariat of Sri Lanka to connect all Sri Lankans overseas.
The Deepavali celebrations showcase the rich multi ethnic bonds of the country and create a platform for fostering inter-community bonds and understanding.
