Fundraising Campaign to Build a Centre for Senior Citizens

Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak attended at the Ground-breaking ceremony of the Ti-Ratana Elderly Care Centre in Desa- Petaling on 26 July 2017. Ti-Ratana Welfare Society was founded by Most Venerable K. Sri Dhammaratana, the Chief Monk of the Brick Field Temple.Ti-Ratana and it is one of the biggest independent, voluntary, NGOs based in Malaysia. The society runs three children homes with over 250 children, two seniors' residences with about 50 senior citizens, a shelter home for women, and mobile clinics to provide free medical services to the people in the rural areas.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak announced an allocation of RM 1 million to build the new block of the welfare centre, which was and additional provision to the RM 1 million allocated for its construction a few years ago. The total cost of the building construction is estimated at RM 12 million. The new building is expected to complete within 13 months and can accommodated 180 senior citizens. His Excellency the High Commissioner A J M Muzammil too was invited to attend the event.
