SRI LANKA HIGH COMMISSION CONDUCTS FIRST MOBILE SERVICE IN MALAYSIA

The Sri Lanka High Commission in Malaysia conducted its first mobile service in Johor Bharu on Saturday, 29th April 2017. Johor Bharu one of the leading industrial cities in Malaysia is located approximately 330 km away from Kuala Lumpur. There are a large number of Sri Lankan nationals presently working in Johor Bharu. The High Commission provided Consular and Labour Mobile Service at three locations in Johor Bharu namely Gimmill Industries Batu Pahat, Tai Wah Garments, Kulai and Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Johor. The officials of the High commission visited two Companies namely Gimmill Industries Batu Pahat which has over 300 and Tai Wah Garments, Kulai which has over 290 Sri Lankan nationals working. Providing Consular and Labour Mobile Service in Johor Bharu gave an opportunity, firstly to meet the Sri Lankan nationals and also an opportunity to meet the representatives of Companies. The High Commission was able to provide Consular Assistance to the Sri Lankan Nationals such as renewal of passports, discuss visa related issues and attend to issues with the management. It was observed that, in general, the companies have being paying adequate attention to the welfare of the Sri Lankan workers. Some workers have been working for over 5 years and holding high positions. Both Companies reiterated that they prefer to hire Sri Lankan workers. The High Commission discussed with the relevant companies ways and means to further increase job opportunities for Sri Lankan nationals.
